Origins

To be an engineer means to be many things. To be a creator, a designer, to critically think to be a challenger, to be collaborative, to lead. There are numerous reasons why one decides to be an engineer but when I was twelve and during my high school years, I only had two reasons. Because I read a book and because I had a dream. When I was twelve, I came across the Percy Jackson series where one of the characters is an architect. I found myself in architectural engineering at Carleton University before switching to Toronto Metropolitan University in order to stay within the greater Toronto Area.

The second reason was to build an orphanage. Somewhere along the way of midterms and finals and assignments I began to lose sight of why I even started in the first place. I would like to build an orphange or be a part of designing one. I thought by creating a safe space for children it was my way of helping the world.

Over time while attending numerous classes and individuals, I began to realize what kind of company I wish to work for. I wish to work for a company full of diversity and women who also have the same passion for structural engineering. I wish to work for a company that values learning within the company and creating room to improve. I wish to work for a company that is open minded and values their employees and their identities.
